HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN YOU SEAT AROUND THIS TABLE?

How many people can be seated around this table? This is the question that i answer for about 100 or more times a day. I should probably just get a recorder and hit play whenever someone asks me again. ;)

Let me break it down to help you understand the space requirement for various table layouts. I've also taken into account personal space and the varying widths of the chairs.

Here's my ULTIMATE RULE. No matter how small or big your table is, I usually say to customers that they need to allow 24 inches or 2ft per person as a basic arrangement in deciding the seat capacity.

This rule is perfect if you're not sitting anyone on both ends of the table like the photo below.

If you're planning on sitting someone on both ends, you might want to consider the size of your base and how much overhang you're thinking to use as you don't want their knees hitting the base every time they sit on the table. I suggest going bigger for like about 24" or 36",

I would take the table below as an example. its an 84" long table, considering the 2ft (24") per person rule, we've put 2 chairs on both sides which accounts to 48" and additional 18" overhang on each end.

You can fit more chairs if you're using a pedestal base, just take the 6ft long table below as an example.

You should also take into consideration the use of a bench or a custom banquet. The bench style seating allows more diners to fit in the dining table and it also makes the space more open and airy.

I hope this guide can help you make decisions on the maximum chairs you can fit per table but still make it look aesthetically pleasing :)

Feel free to suggest more ways or if you have your own cheat sheet version that you may want to share with us on the comments below.
